Picture

[edit]

One cool picture to have would be a piece of glass partially submerged in paint thinner. (The indices match.) ―BenFrantzDale 03:35, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Other uses

[edit]
  • distinguishing gem stones with different refractive indexes - e.g. diamond from zircon
  • examining unpolished stones for defects - the matching fluid removes surface reflections and scattering so internal defects become visible
