A webmaster is a person responsible for maintaining one or more websites. The title may refer to web architects, web developers, site authors, website administrators, website owners, website coordinators, or website publishers. The term webmaster is no longer in widespread use as websites have become more sophisticated, with teams of people collaborating to produce and maintain a single site.
In recognition of the decline of the use of the term webmaster, Google renamed Google Webmasters Central to Google Search Central on November 12, 2020. Highlighting that the origin of the term can be traced to 1993, Google considers it to be "archaic" and not used by web developer professionals. [1]
