Deprecation?

I have multiple Android apps that want permisson to receive C2DM messages. I think for the latest update of Firefox (48), this was listed as a new permission.

So is there more to it than Google's service? Why is it apparently still an official Android permission? Is the protocol still in use and supported by Android (at least Lollipop), only that third parties will now use other means oft authentication than Google's original service? --Zupftom (talk) 07:09, 7 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
