Earth Diameter

The article claims "Those designers selected a 24-bit word length because the Earth is roughly 40 million feet in diameter, ...", but the given reference doesn't mention the diameter of the Earth at all, AFAICS. Also, Earth's diameter (or even radius) in feet doesn't fit into 24 bits, so that claim isn't plausible (it would work with yards or meters, though).

I've added {{failed verification}}, because I couldn't find anything in the citation to support the claim, either; if nobody responds and provides a citation that does support the claim, we should remove it. Guy Harris (talk) 16:59, 13 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
