2023 Danish terror plot
In the early hours of Thursday, 14 December 2023, three people in Denmark and one in the Netherlands were arrested and charged with planning a terrorist attack against Denmark. Five diffrent police departments across Denmark were involved and police raids are ongoing. It was been said to have links with criminal gangs, including the banned gang organisation Loyal To Familia (LTF). He three arrested in Denmark were subjected to constitutional interrogation later the same day. Police increased its presence in the Danish capital Copenhagen with a special focus on Jewish sites. Danish prime minister Mette Frederiksen stated "This is as serious as it gets", while former head of the Danish Police Intelligence Service (PET) Frank Jensen noted the unusual low lumber of arrests.[1]
Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that several persons "operat[ing] on behalf of" Hamas is involved in the Danish terrorist plans.[2] Four Hamas leaders were arrested in Germany on the same day, despite the arrests being considered unrelated.[3] Before the Police's press briefing at 1 pm CET, the chairmen of the political parties in the Folketing as well as members of the Jewish community.[4] At least one arrest was carried out in the Århus district of Gellerupparken, an area on the goverment's ghetto list due to its high Middle Eastern population,[5] although causation to the terror plot remains unknown.[6][7]
