Essay on editing Wikipedia
![]() | This is an essay. It contains the advice or opinions of one or more Wikipedia contributors. This page is not an encyclopedia article, nor is it one of Wikipedia's policies or guidelines, as it has not been thoroughly vetted by the community. Some essays represent widespread norms; others only represent minority viewpoints. |
On Wikipedia, questions are not only allowed, but appropriate and productive.
It must be kept in mind that:
- In many (most?) cases it is not required that questions be answered from moderately experienced users.
- You can ask questions and others can ask you questions.
- Tit for tat: It doesn't matter who asks first. If you expect a question to be answered, you must expect to answer questions. If you are unwilling to answer a question, you must allow others to do so. By asking a question you assert that others have the right to ask questions. If you assume that you should get answers, you must answer questions.
- A user's question(s) may not be used to deny qualification regarding a topic.
- Questions indicate collaboration, good faith, and a concern for improving Wikipedia content.
