Appearance
The term 'pin up' girl comes from the early 17th century occupation of lower caste women of child bearing age. These women were tasked with literally pinning up cloth to the walls of deteriorating buildings. These buildings were then occupied by families. Often, these women would be forced to pin their own clothes up to the wall. In this warm weather society, these women would often appear naked in these towns and were known as 'pinup girls.'
