Linear Accelerators
The four basic components of an X-ray producing machine include: a. a source of electrons b. a vacuum within which the electrons are accelerated c. an energy source which cause the electrons to be accelerated d. a target made of a high atomic number, high melting point metal
In the linear accelerator, these components are specifically: A. an electron gun such as is found in the common TV B. a long (0.5-1.5 metre) hollow copper pipe with various tuning compartments. C. microwaves such as those used to warm dinner, but tuned to the frequency of the electron. D. a tungsten target.
Of course there are many more components and control systems associated with the machine than these but these are the basics.
