Torch is a chess engine created developed by Chess.com.[1] Torch finished second in the Chess.com Computer Chess Championship, only bested by Stockfish.[1] Torch first participated in the tournament under the name "Mystery".[3][4][2] Torch is not publicly available, but the team behind Torch plans to make the engine available to rating lists. It will also be available through Chess.com’s analysis in the future.[1]

The team behind Torch is composed of Andrew Grant (Ethereal), Finn Eggers & Kim Kåhre (Koivisto), Jay Honnold (Berserk), and Michael Whiteley & Dietrich Kappe (Dragon).[1] The former authors of Dragon, Mark Lefler and Larry Kaufman, are advisors to the project.[2] The development of Torch is supported by many open-source tools, including pytorch-nnue, Cutechess, and OpenBench.[1] The team behind Torch said that the entire source code of Torch is original, with no code being used from any other engine.[1]

The goal of Torch is to provide a strong and unique chess-playing experience for users on Chess.com.[2]
