Area code 268
Area code 268 is the telephone area code in the North American Numbering Plan for Antigua and Barbuda. The area code was activated on 1 April 1996, by division of numbering plan area 809 which used to comprise all Caribbean countries.
Numerically, the area code translates to ANT on a standard US alphanumeric telephone keypad, providing a mnemonic designation.
When in Antigua and Barbuda, seven-digit dialing for local telephone calls is possible. Calling to Antigua and Barbuda from the United States or Canada requires dialing the long-distance trunk prefix 1 before the area code and local telephone number.
One-ring scam
The 268 area code has been linked to a form of telephone fraud known as the "one ring scam". The offender calls the victim with a robodialer or similar means, then hangs up when the call is answered with the hope that they will be curious enough to call the number back. The victim is charged an international call fee, as well as $9.00 per minute for the duration of the call.[1]
