Mac OS X Server 1.0
Mac OS X Server 1.0 was the final embodiment of Apple's Rhapsody product. It had the Apple Platinum "look and feel," but was not OS Classic. It had OS X's UNIX core, and had the NeXTSTEP-like Shelf in the Finder. There was no Dock. It had a simulation of Mac OS 8.6 called the "Blue Box." This was similar in principle to Panther's Classic Environment, since Server 1.0 couldn't run Classic apps. However, many complained of the problems with the "Blue Box," and it didn't function nearly as well as Classic. Server 1.0 included TextEdit, not SimpleText, and had several other similarities to NeXTSTEP and the final OS X. It had the black dot in the close button on unsaved documents. IT was stable and a UNIX descendant. But it still looked like Classic, Aqua not having been developed yet. Server 1.0 was released in 1999. It was later replaced by the Mac OS X Developer Preview 1, the first OS to implement Aqua.
