May be give a better motivation for these codes. Furthermore, these codes are either "Geometric Goppa codes" or "algebraic geometry codes", which are better terms then the term "Goppa codes" which usually refers to the codes used in the classical McEliece cryptosystem.

FWIW, note that this page was previously moved by User:Charles Matthews from Algebraic Geometric Coding Theory to Goppa code, saying "the new title is badly chosen; the upper case is against convention, and there is no reason to have a more abstract title". It had previously been moved from the latter to the former: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&logid=4459966 saying "The new title is the more widely used form of the same thing". ★NealMcB★ (talk) 20:05, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

First external link on the bottom if the page is broken "An undergraduate thesis on Algebraic Geometric Coding Theory" gives a 404

That has been fixed. ★NealMcB★ (talk)

Complete Overhaul

Hello to anyone who reads this. I've completely overhauled the page, replacing poor references with standard ones in the field, attempting to make the flow towards the description of the codes more non-expert-friendly, elaborating on the naming confusion and providing references for this, and adding some history / examples in different sections.

I'm new to editing Wikipedia pages, so I would appreciate any tips or help anyone might have as I continue fixing this algebraic geometry code mess. Particularly, one of the biggest things I still need to do is move this page to one called "Algebraic geometry codes" (which is what these codes are), and fix links and references to this page that also call AG codes "Goppa codes". Replying to myself to say, I’ve made enough small edits that I was just able to move to the proper page name, “Algebraic geometry code”. Foobanana (talk) 20:46, 27 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
