Policy-based routing (PBR) provides is a means of routing of data packets based on the policies defined by the network administrators. PBR can be set to override the routes that would other wise be used via dynamic routing protocols.

PBR allows routing policies to be implemented on the basis of the following parameters:

IP address of the source of the packet 
Application
Protocol
Size of packets
