The trident loop is a strong loop used in climbing. Many climbers prefer this knot over the Figure-of-eight loop because it is debatably stronger, and easy to untie even after heavy loading.

Tying

  1. Form an overhand, leaving enough rope for the loop and the rest of the knot.
  2. Form the loop by wrapping the working end around, and forming a "kink".
  3. Tuck the "kink" through the overhand knot
  4. Wrap the remaining working end around the back of the knot
  5. Feed the working end up through the "kink".
