For the German cartoon character see Schnappi

Snapi is an assistive technology that places automatic teller machine (ATM) user preferences onto a smart card. The full title is Special Needs Application Program Interface – an API created to help people with special needs.

When a card containing snapi data is put into an ATM it informs the computer how to communicate with the user. This can enable various accessibility modes such as a high-contrast display or increased font size. When the transaction is complete the ATM returns to its default settings. The card could also be developed for use with any computer system with a smart card reader.

The technology was based on European standard EN1332-4 and developed in part by the Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB).
