Contrails is a small manual issued to Basic Cadets entering the United States Air Force Academy. This book contains information regarding U.S. Air Force and U.S. military history; aircraft, satellites, and munitions in the current U.S. Air Force inventory; famous (often patriotic) quotes; and information about the Academy itself. Incoming freshmen (given the rank of Cadet Fourth-Class) are required to memorize information from Contrails word-for-word and regurgitate the information on weekly "military knowledge tests."
