Do not copy this file to Wikimedia Commons.
This file will not be in the public domain in both its home country and the United States until January 1, {{{1}}} and should not be transferred to Wikimedia Commons until that date, as Commons requires that works be free in the source country and in the United States.

This template is to indicate when an image is in public domain in both its source country and the United States. English Wikipedia policy allows for copyrighted images to be used under "fair use" guidelines. However, these images must not be transferred to Commons until they are public domain in both the United States and the country of origin.

Once eligible, files will automatically be tagged with {{Copy to Wikimedia Commons}}.

Usage

• {{Copy to Wikimedia Commons in|PUBLIC_DOMAIN_YEAR}}

The parameter PUBLIC_DOMAIN_YEAR is the year in which the media becomes public domain in the home country, and is mandatory.

Whenever this template is transcluded, if the PUBLIC_DOMAIN_YEAR is in the future (for example: {{Copy to Wikimedia Commons in|2027}}) then the template box will display the following:

This file will not be in the public domain in both its home country and the United States until January 1, 2027 and should not be transferred to Wikimedia Commons until that date, as Commons requires that images be free in the source country and in the United States.

However, if the PUBLIC_DOMAIN_YEAR is in the past (for example: {{Copy to Wikimedia Commons in|2023}}) then the template will display the following:

This image was uploaded when it was in copyright in its home country. However, it is now believed the image fell out of copyright on January 1, 2023. Please confirm the details, and if it seems correct, move this image to Wikimedia Commons.

This file is a candidate to be copied to Wikimedia Commons.

Any user may perform this transfer; refer to Wikipedia:Moving files to Commons for details.

If this file has problems with attribution, copyright, or is otherwise ineligible for Commons, then remove this tag and DO NOT transfer it; repeat violators may be blocked from editing.

• Endorse this file for transfer by adding |human=<your username> to this Template.
• If this file is freely licensed, but otherwise unsuitable for Commons (e.g. out of Commons' scope, still copyrighted in the US), then replace this Template with {{Do not move to Commons|reason=<Why it can't be moved>}}
• If you think that a local copy of this file should be retained, then replace this Template with {{Keep local|reason=<Why a local copy is needed>}}
