How to Deal is a 2003 American romantic comedy-drama film directed by Clare Kilner and starring Mandy Moore, Allison Janney, and Trent Ford. The film is based on Sarah Dessen's novels That Summer and Someone like You.

Plot

After witnessing a bitter divorce between her parents, 17-year old Halley Martin believes that finding love is the route for disaster, but after the death of her best friend's boyfriend it serves as the catalyst as she realizes that time is limited and starts to pursue semi popular yet outcast, Macon Forrester . While going out with him, she has a self discovery journey that love and being loved isn't all that bad.

The film received generally negative reviews, with a score of 28% in review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes based on 93 reviews. The site's consensus states: "Soap opera for teens."[1]

Box office

In its opening weekend, the film grossed $5,809,960 million in 2,319 theaters in the United States and Canada, ranking #8 at the box office. By the end of its run, How to Deal grossed $14,195,227 domestically and $112,905 internationally, totaling $14,308,132 worldwide.[2]
