The 2022 Garry's Mod hacking incident began on June 1st, 2022, when the creator of the "Glue Library" addon to Garry's Mod was banned from the game. Then, pornographic content, gore, etc.[1] were added to jumpscare players which loaded in the game with the add on installed, one of the jumpscares, being the most infamous, was a video of beloved children's TV character Spongebob SquarePants saying slurs and overall, being racist. The Glue Library addon wasn't the only Garry's Mod addon affected, as other addons were hacked to display the jumpscares once the player loaded in. Not only would the jumpscares show NSFW content, but they would also play loud screaming noises. The other hacked addons include the "View Extension" addon, the "JAction Extension" addon, the "Dragotheke" addon, the "Trollface Player" addons, and the "Ambient Occulsion" addon.[2] The player would be jumpscared by a notorious image known as "goatse" [3]on the Glue Library addon, Racist Spongebob would appear on the Trollface Player add one, etc. If you dug deeper in the files, you would see loads of curse words and death threats directed towards Steam, Valve Corporation and Gabe Newell. [4] Other jumpscares include a picture of a man stretching his buttocks with extreme vigor, [5] pictures of Neko-Arc that include, Neko-Arc smoking a "fat blunt", Neko-Arc with the middle finger emoji used by social media platform Twitter, etc.
