Punyark (Sun Temple)

The Punyark^[1] Sun temple is a Gupta period ^[2] temple dedicated to the worship of Sun God Suryadev^[3].It is the only Sun temple in Bihar situated on the banks of the holy river Ganges^[4].

History

The temple is said to have been built by Samba^[5] who was the son of Krishna^[6]and his second consort Jambavati^[7].

Location

The temple is situated in Pandarak village which falls under Barh^[8] subdivision of Patna district^[9]. Pandarak is situated along the southern bank of river Ganges^[10], nearly eighty kilometers east of city of Patna^[11], in the state of Bihar^[12].
