OpenWeb is a social engagement platform that builds online communities around digital content.[1] OpenWeb works with publishers to bring conversations back from social networks to publisher sites.

Headquartered in New York City, the company also has an office in Tel Aviv, Israel.

The company's platform can monitor and filter online comments sections. It is able to identify anonymous users by using artificial intelligence to analyze their use of language, and by other means including their IP address and web browser cookies.[2] In 2016, the company published trends in online comments relating to the 2016 United States presidential election, and co-founder Nadav Shoval suggested his company had more reliable information than polls, but refused to disclose whether it collects demographic or geographic information.[3]

History

The company was founded in 2012 as Spot.IM by Israeli software architects Nadav Shoval and Ishay Green.[4] Roee Goldberg joined as Co-Founder and COO in 2014.[5]

In 2016, Spot.IM raised $13 million from Index Ventures and AltarR Capital, along with other notable technology investors, in a Series A round.[6]

In 2017, co-founder and CEO, Nadav Shoval, was inducted into the second annual Forbes Israel 30 Under 30 list.[7] In addition, the company finalized its Series C investment round of $25M, led by New York City-based fund - Insight Partners, Altair VC, and Norma Investments.[8][9]

In 2019, Spot.IM raised $25 million in Series D funding.[10] The new funding was led by previous investor Insight Partners along with Norma Investments, AltaIR Capital, Cerca and WGI Group.[10]

In 2020, the company was renamed OpenWeb.[11]

In 2022, after its Series-E funding round, the company acquired Hive Media Group for a mix of cash and stock with a total value of $60M. [12]
