Nick Elliott (born Nicholas Raymond Elliott Peterborough, England) is a British rock art photographer[1]
Biography
Elliott grew up in Stanground[2] and started his career as an editorial photographer with East Midlands Allied Press (EMAP) for The Peterborough Evening Telegraph, and The Peterborough Advertiser.[citation needed] Elliott then worked in the magazine division, shooting for Anglian Times, Motor Cycle News[3] and Motor Cycle Racing.[4]
Elliott left EMAP to pursue a freelance career[2] and was commissioned by media and publishing companies including International Publishing Corporation (IPC) for Truck Magazine, Car Magazine, and Auto Car.[5]
Elliott worked with agencies Saatchi & Saatchi, Yellow Hammer, Carlson, Young & Rubican,[5] GGT, Ogilvy & Mather, MSBK and Publicis[6].
In 1990, Publicis' campaign If You're Not Feeling Too Special for Sonatogen[3] placed 3rd in Euro Best Advertising Awards using Elliott’s photography. In 1991, Elliott was commissioned by TBWA to photograph the 1992 UK general election billboard campaign for the Liberal Democrats.[5]
Elliott's shot rock Trapeze[4] for the Peterborough Evening Telegraph in 1973 [citation needed] and continued to photograph musicians throughout his career. In 2010, Elliott shot in Nashville, Tennessee,[7][4] and became official photographer for Planet Rock radio station.[8]
Published work
Elliott's images have been published in media[8] and licensed for CD covers and promotional material[9] by record companies and music artists, and his work has been exhibited.[10][11]
In 2011, publisher Rufus Stone[12] released a book; TEN-A Decade In Images, using Elliott’s images from ten years of the Cambridge Folk Festival and included quotes by some featured musicians.[13] It was endorsed by the folk festival organisers Cambridge City Council[14].
Elliott published a follow-up book; 50Folk (ISBN 9781320352857), [15] as a personal celebration of 50 years of the festival in 2014. A year later, Elliott released Three Weeks One Summer (ISBN 9781366441300)[6] documenting The Marmalade during the making of their Penultimate CD, DVD, and vinyl record.[16]
A fourth book, Ice Cream & Sun Cream (ISBN 9781366421609), was released in 2017[17]. Elliott entered it for an award at the Vienna Photo Book Festival the same year. [18]
Video and radio
Elliott had a cameo role in 4 music videos by singer Gary Curtis: Crazy Love;[19] If Every Day Was Like Christmas;[20] Why with Anne Nolan;[21] and All Alone At Christmas.[22]
In 2015, Elliott made a cameo appearance in a short film, The Guardian, by Aturn Films.[23]
Elliott’s music choice was the subject of a 7 episode radio special, Tracks of Nick's Years, on [Endeavour FM]] in 2014. The following year, Elliott began co-hosting Sound And Nick's Vision on Siren FM.<ref>"Sound And Nick's Vision". Southside Broadcasting.</ref
