Lawrence is an English masculine given name. It is an Anglicisation of Laurent,[1] the French form of of the Latin name Laurentius, meaning "man from Laurentum". It is possible that the place name Laurentum is derived from the Latin laurus ("laurel"). Also, the Greek form Λαυρέντιος (Lauréntios) or Lavrenti is derived from the aforementioned Latin form.[2] Pet forms of Lawrence include Larry and Lawrie.[1]
