Then Barbara Met Alan is an upcoming British television drama film written by Jack Thorne and Genevieve Barr about the founders of DAN (Disabled People's Direct Action Network), a disability activism group. It stars Ruth Madeley and Arthur Hughes.[1][2]
Plot
After meeting in 1989, two disabled cabaret performers lead coordinated protests to campaign for disabled rights, bringing them into mainstream awareness.

Production
The project had the working title of Independence Day? How Disabled Rights Were Won.[3] During his MacTaggart Lecture at Edinburgh TV Festival, Thorne remarked that this was the first time he'd been able to get a budget comparable to regular television drama for a disability project.[4]
