Jean Pierson (19 November 1940 – 3 November 2021) was a French engineer.[1] He notably participated in the Concorde program and the development of Airbus.

Biography

Pierson was born on 19 November 1940 in Bizerte in the French protectorate of Tunisia. Raised in France, he started his career in the aeronautical industry. He studied at the Prytanée national militaire[2] and graduated from the Institut supérieur de l'aéronautique et de l'espace in 1963. His career began on 1 July 1963 at Sud Aviation, where he worked as a production engineer.

From 1972 to 1976, Pierson was the Director of SOCATA. From 1976 to 1983, he was director of the Toulouse office of Aérospatiale. He then served as Managing Director of Airbus from 1985 to 1998 and supervised the launch of the Airbus A380. He played a large role in the commercial development of Airbus Industries.[3][4] During his time as Managing Director, Airbus's global market share increased from 17% to 40%.[5]

Jean Pierson died on 3 November 2021 at the age of 80.[6]
