Non-functional Testing, as the name suggests, is the testing of a software application for the requirements specifying its product characteristics or non-functional characteristics. The set of tests under non-functional testing is often misunderstood or interchangeably used. For example, performance testing, load testing, stress testing, volume testing and endurance testing is so often used interchangeable that there is consistent confusion among readers as to what is what and how they differ, though subtly sometimes.

Other than these, non-functional testing also comprises the following tests:

Scalability testing Resilience testing Security testing Compatibility testing Usability testing, Compliance Testing Localization and Internationalization testing and Documentation testing
