Village Cooking Channel is a Tamil YouTube Channel, popularly known as VCC. They are known for their videos on traditional village food cooking in open fields.[3] As of June 2021, it had 1.01 Million Subscribers in Youtube and became the first Tamil youtube channel to receive First Diamond Creator Award.[citation needed] Several of their videos have more than 40 million views and ‘mutton curry’ video is the most popular one with 49 million views as on Feb 2021.[4]
The Channel is being run by Cousin brothers V. Subramanian, V. Ayyanar, V. Murugesan, T. Muthumanickam, G. Tamilselvan and led by their grandfather and former chef M. Periyathambi.[2] Periyathambi is well-known caterer in the village of Chinnaveeramangalam, Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu. They use huge vessels and cauldrons to cook traditional dishes, After filming the video, the food is served to oldage homes and orphanage in their village.[2][5]
On 2021 January, Rahul Gandhi joined in their outdoor cooking for mushroom biryani.[6][7][8] On June 4 2021, Channel has donated 10 lakh Rupees to Tamilnadu Chief Minister Public Relief Fund for fight against Covid 19 pandemic.[citation needed] Its unique style has won Black Sheep Digital Award for Best Food Programme in February 2021.[9][10]
