Wikipedia:Administrators open to recall
Some Wikipedia administrators have agree to be subject to reconfirmation (also called "recall"). Joining, or pledging to join, this group is entirely voluntary on an administrator's part.
Reconfirmation is performed by running a Reconfirmation Request for Adminship (RRfA). This runs and works much like a standard Request for Adminship, except that the candidate is already an admin. A successful candidate will continue on with no change, remaining an admin in good standing. An unsuccessful candidate will be removed from admin rolls.
An RRfA is triggered by the fulfillment of whatever terms the admin has specified. The Standard Offer is that an RRfA may be begun upon the simultaneous request, made by signing a public list, of six editors with 500 mainspace edits and over one month of tenure and no significant blocks for disruptive behavior within the last 4 months.
But admins agreeing, or pledging, to be open to recall may specify a different requirement to trigger an RRfA, and this is often done. They may require six editors with 2000 mainspace edits and six months of tenure. Or ten editors. Or that at least three be admins. Or that a proper RfC be run to determine if an RRfA be triggered. Or that only a personal request by Jimbo Wales will be sufficient. Or any other reasonable thing.
Administrators can add themselves to Category:Wikipedia administrators open to recall to show their intent. Administrators may add an entry at Editing Wikipedia:Administrators open to recall/Individual specs to record what requirements they have specified for an RRfA to be initiated (if not listed, the Standard Offer is assumed unless it was specified elsewhere).
The desire is to keep this as simple as possible. For convenience, a sample process is available.
Categories of admins open to recall
There are two categories of admins open to recall:
- Volunteers. Administrators who have agreed to be open to recall of their own volition, and not as part of a pledge during their successful Request for Adminship. Volunteers may leave the category at any time for any reason (thus rendering themselves no longer open to recall), or change the terms as they wish. (All admins who agreed to be open to open to recall before 2021 (and some after) are Volunteers.)
- Pledgers. Administrators who have pledged to be open to recall during their successful Request for Adminship are assumed to not be able to withdraw this pledge or change the terms set then (absent a community consensus to so allow), since this was then a condition of election. No admin candidate is in any way required, during their Request for Adminship, to pledge to be open to recall. But if they do, it is binding. Any attempt revoke this binding pledge is an actionable breach of trust and indication of lack of sufficient honesty to continue as an administrator, and may be hindered by any editor with standing, and referred to arbitration.
