The California appellate projects are non-profit law offices under a contract with the Judicial Council of California or the California Court of AppealCite error: A <ref>

(see the help page).</ref> to provide legal services to indigent parties on appeal from criminal, delinquency, dependency and mental health judgments in their respective district. There are six appellate projects: one each for each of the districts of the Court, with the exception of the Third and Fifth districts which share a single project, and one for assisting in the representation of capital inmates.
The appellate projects are as follows:[1]
- The First District Appellate Project, covering the First District.
- The California Appellate Project, covering the Second District.
- The Central California Appellate Program, covering the Third and Fifth Districts.
- The Appellate Defenders Inc., covering the Fourth District.
- The Sixth District Appellate Program, covering the Sixth District.
- The California Appellate Project in San Francisco, which provides assistance to private counsel appointed by the California Supreme Court to represent indigent defendants in capital criminal cases.
