Roberts Projects (formerly Roberts & Tilton) is a contemporary art gallery. The gallery is located in the Culver City arts district (CCAD)[1] of Los AngelesCalifornia
History
Roberts Projects was founded as Roberts & Tilton by partners Bennett Roberts, Julie Roberts, and Jack Tilton in Los Angeles, California, in 1999.[2]
Following the passing of partner Jack Tilton (1951- 2017) [3] Roberts & Tilton changed its name to Roberts Projects on January 1, 2018.[4]
In August of 2020, Roberts Projects became a recognized member of the Art Dealers Association of America (ADAA)[5][6]
Design
Roberts Projects currently occupies a former 3,000 sq. ft coffee-roasting factory in Culver City, California. Renovations were completed in 2008 by the architecture firm of Johnston Marklee.[7][8]
Past Exhibitions
Artist Kehinde Wiley had his first solo show in Los Angeles at the gallery in 2003 titled Pictures at an Exhibition (October 11- November 8, 2003).[9][10]. Kehinde Wiley introduced Amoako Boafo to partners Julie Roberts and Bennett Roberts who offered Boafo his first solo show in the US in 2018. [11] The gallery has also been the first to show artist Otis Kwame Kai Quaicoe in 2020[12][13]
The gallery was first to show artist and founder of the Underground Museum, Noah Davis in a group show in 2007 titled Bliss. [14]
Roberts Projects has been representing Betye Saar since 2007 and has been her sole gallery representation since 2018. [15]
