The TU Delft Library is the main library of the Delft University of Technology, located in Delft, Netherlands. It was designed by the Dutch architecture firm Mecanoo and built in 1997. It is the largest technical scientific library in the Netherlands
Building
The library is designed in a 15% sloped plane, with a grass-covered green roof on top and a cone coming out of it.
The green roof system by ZinCo Benelux and with Leven op Daken as the main contractor uses a cellular glass insulation and a 6 inch deep substrate.[1] It is used for recreation and for temperature and acoustic insulation.[2]
Architect and blogger Leva Skudraite wrote that the "interior was pure visual and photographic pleasure. Easy to orient oneself, bright colours, calm and inspiring environment for study".[3]
The library has been selected among the most beautiful libraries in the Netherlands,[4] and the world.[5]
Collections and activities
As of 2017 the library had a collection of more than 862,000 books, and 16,000 magazine subscriptions.[5]
The TU Delft Library is a founding partner of DataCite, a global network established to "improve access to research data on the Internet".[6] In 2017 the the library started a data stewardship project focused on research data management.[7]
