Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better organize information in articles related to Linux. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions; it is hoped that this project will help to focus the efforts of other Wikipedians. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page and see the to-do list there.

Goals

  • To improve the quality and expand the range of Linux-related articles on Wikipedia.
  • To improve articles such that they would serve as useful to beginners and experts alike, by providing both simple and more technical descriptions.
  • To spread awareness of Linux, in a respectful and realistic manner, to other Wikipedians.

State of affairs

The following is a list of current featured articles and good articles directly related to Linux:

Distributions:

Kernel:

Software:

Philosophy:

Mini collaboration

For now, we need to collaborate on getting the WikiProject organized and get a healthy set of articles/lists marked up with the Wikiproject template. In the future I plan to use this space to advertise a specific article that we want to get to good article status.

To vote for or nominate the next Mini Collaboration, go to this page: Wikipedia:WikiProject Linux/Mini Collaboration Nominations.

Templates

Stub template

For Linux stub articles use the standard {{linux-stub}} or one of its sub-stub categories.

Article Page template

On the talk pages of the articles that we are focusing on, please put in this template: {{Linuxproject}}. It should appear like this:

Tux the penguin This article is part of WikiProject Linux, an attempt to build a comprehensive and detailed guide to Linux on Wikipedia. If you would like to participate, you can edit the article attached to this notice, or visit the project page, where you can join the project and/or contribute to the discussion.

At the moment this project has just started and has not made any contribution to the Linux articles as yet. Now is more of a recruitment drive, and the current project is to get as many Linux articles tagged as possible.

Please don't add this to articles we have not yet had an effect on. It frustrates some of the editors that have worked hard on the article in the first place.

Userbox

For a userbox, use this: {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Linux/Userbox}}.
