A new central destination to help you turn your passion into a living on Instagram

At Instagram, we’re committed to helping creators turn their passions into a living and supporting small businesses. As part of our ongoing effort to give creators and businesses the tools they need, we are announcing Professional Dashboard, a central destination to track performance, access and discover professional tools, and explore educational information curated by Instagram.

Throughout 2020, we launched a series of products to help creators and businesses accomplish their goals on Instagram like Badges, Instagram Shop, Checkout, and Branded Content tools. We also started to consolidate these tools and resources into one central hub. Since launch in November, over 82 million accounts have visited the Professional Resources hub and 37 million accounts have tapped on at least one item. We have built on this momentum with the launch of the new Professional Dashboard, and will continue to make the experience better throughout 2021.

here are three key features of Professional Dashboard:

1

Track Your Performance:

Discover insights and trends based on your accounts performance.

2

Grow Your Business:

Easily access tools you use to run your account more efficiently, discover new tools to help you build your business, and check monetization status and eligibility.

3

Stay Informed:

Learn how to make the most of Instagram through curated educational resources including tips, tricks, guidance, and inspiration.

While some of these resources already exist across Instagram, we hope that by bringing them together into one central place we can make it easier for professionals to discover and access the tools best-suited for them.

We will add to the Professional Dashboard over time as we continue to build out a suite of tools that help creators and businesses grow and succeed on Instagram.

Professional Dashboard is available to all Business and Creator Accounts on Instagram.

On Instagram, you have the option to choose from a personal account or a professional account.

There are two types of professional accounts to choose from:

Business Account - best for businesses, freelancers and designers

Creator Account - best for influencers, artists and celebrities

With a professional account, you'll be able to access more features for managing your business such as Instagram insights.

These tools can help you understand better your audience and your content performance.

Features you get access to with a professional Instagram account

1. Linking to a Facebook business page

With a linked page, you can assign roles such as admins and editors who can have access to manage your Instagram account.

2. Instagram Insights

This feature provides additional information including insights into your followers and your posts.

You can also rank posts by engagement and identify which posts are helping you grow.

3. Additional contact info

Professional accounts can add contact buttons on their main profile page.

These can include directions, a phone number or an email address.

If you have a physical address you want to display it'll be shown below your profile's description.

4. Add a category Label

A professional account has a category label directly below the profile picture.

This category will follow the category of your linked Facebook Page.

You can opt to display or hide your category label on your profile after setting up.

5. Set up a secondary Inbox

With a professional account you’ll get access to an inbox with two tabs: Primary and General.

This can help you sort out the messages and notifications you receive by priority.

6. Ranked Requests

You’ll be able to sort new message requests from accounts you don’t follow by received date or by top accounts.

Anyone can switch to a professional account on Instagram. And with so many additional tools and features available it’s no wonder so many people are opting for business and creator accounts on Instagram.

Do you have a professional account on Instagram? If not, here’s how to make your Instagram a business account.

Wondering how to brand yourself on Instagram to attract the right followers? You’re not alone!

Building a strong brand on Instagram isn’t only important for your business, but it is essential for attracting the right audience, aka your future customers.

And since you only have a few seconds to make a great first impression when a new visitor lands on your Instagram profile, it’s important you make it count!

In this post, we’ll teach you how to brand yourself on Instagram by optimizing your Instagram profile to convert new visitors into followers:

Whether you’re new to Instagram marketing or just starting a new account, attracting new followers on Instagram can be a challenge.

We partnered with digital nomad and Instagram expert Elise Darma to create a free Instagram workshop about how to get your first 1000 followers for Instagram! In this section, Darma explains how to brand yourself on Instagram by optimizing your Instagram profile:

How to Brand Yourself on Instagram #1: Combine Your Personal and Professional Instagram Account

Many business owners are still juggling two Instagram accounts — one personal account (which is typically set to “private”) and another account that reflects their professional lives.

However, Darma notes that many “professional” Instagram accounts are often missing one major thing: the owner’s personality. Instead of trying to keep things separate, Darma suggests “blending these two worlds into one account.”

As Darma discusses in our free Instagram workshop, when it comes to the focus of your account, she recommends creating a “personal business brand,” which is sort of a hybrid between a personal account and a business account. The benefit, she says, is that it allows you to pull elements from both, which can help you resonate with your audience more.

In other words, your Instagram profile should show off your personality, while still letting your followers know you’re running a business!

  1. 2: When It Come To Branding Yourself on Instagram, Keep Your Username Simple

The first thing Darma recommends doing is looking at is your username. If you’re a personal brand, it’s a good idea to use your real name. Otherwise, she recommends using the name of your business.

When it comes to choosing a username, Darma suggests choosing a username that’s as close to your name or online brand name as possible. You want your username to be simple and memorable.

This year many popular Instagram bloggers, including Jacey Duprie (formerly @damselindior), made the switch from the name of their blog to their real name:

Jacey’s “brand” encompasses both her personal and professional life, all on one Instagram profile.

Whether your building a personal brand or business, you should also try to keep your username as short and simple as possible. You want your username to stand out and be memorable, so don’t complicate it with any unnecessary symbols or numbers.

Take Darling Media for example, keeping their Instagram username simple, memorable and easy to find:

  1. 3: Use the Name Field to Share Your Top Targeted Keywords

Next is your name, which is different from your username! According to Darma, a lot of people tend to use their username in their name field. She warns using your username in this field is a lost opportunity because the words you include in your name field are actually searchable on Instagram! A better strategy is to use targeted keywords.

Try to think about keywords that your follower is searching for on Instagram — maybe it’s your business niche or the products you sell. Once you’ve found the right keywords, put them into your name field.

For instance, the account Courtney and the Babes wouldn’t show up when a user searches for new health and wellness products — that’s why they included “Botanical Beauty + Wellness” in their name field:
