Key Additions?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to add this, but how about expanding the set of default/universal accesskeys? A few major ones are as follows: (1) for Wikipedia Home (4) to focus on the Search Box (9) for Contact Wikipedia

Maybe we could also have: (2) for Featured Content (5) for About Wikipedia

These controls are mostly missed out of the current set of acceskeys (which seem to focus on logged in users). However the numbers above are consistent with the most popular scheme used on other sites. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Darkdoc (talkcontribs) 11:04, August 23, 2007 (UTC).

On linux I had to use left alt+right shift to activate commands

I remember previously in linux it was enough to use left alt+left shift and it worked fine but after some time(maybe after updates) I realized it did not respond anymore so I let it be and stopped using it(thinking it broke somehow without knowing why). Today I experimented with using combinations of all 4 keys left alt, left shift, right alt and right shift. Finally it looks like left alt and right shift does the trick, I just made it work to open the wikidata item of a wikipedia item. Btqfshfst (talk) 18:49, 17 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

“On Linux” is quite a broad term; for example, left Alt + left Shift works for me on Debian 9 “stretch” using Cinnamon desktop. Although it stopped working after I enabled this very keystroke for keyboard layout change, so I switched back to Super+Space for that. Maybe it’s your problem too? —Tacsipacsi (talk) 21:34, 17 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! left alt + left shift + . opens my userpage and all other commands should work now(I tried some of them!) Btqfshfst (talk) 20:49, 6 March 2019 (UTC). Yes it was my problem too! Btqfshfst (talk) 20:49, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Several years I can't access these shortcuts in Ubuntu. Now I can. Instructions:

  1. open about:config in Mozilla Firefox
  2. search ui.key.contentAccess
  3. assign ui.key.contentAccess some value, for example, ui.key.contentAccess=6, where 6 = 2 (Ctrl) + 4 (Alt), see Ui.key.contentAccess.

Thus, now I can use Ctrl + Alt in order to access shortcuts in Wikipedia. See also this answer at stackoverflow. --Andrew Krizhanovsky (talk) 08:11, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request on Jan 12, 2020 (Eastern Time)

This page has been repeatedly blanked and vandalised by users like 2408:84F6:8080:AF33:CBB8:B789:1B69:1604 and User: Rockspartz to name a few. Most of these changes have gone unnoticed, and the change by Rockspartz was made in May 2019 and deleted in December of that same year (by me). All this time it was unnoticed. Maybe it's time you protect it.

Please change WP:K's unprotectedness to semi-protected, is what I'm asking. -PRAHLADBalaji 15:05, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. @Prahlad balaji: First, it already is semi-protected, and has been since 2015. Second, requests for page protection can be made at WP:RFPP, not by making an edit request. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 15:59, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
(Fixing ping to Prahlad balaji). –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 16:01, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Deacon Vorbis: I'm sorry. I didn't realize. Thanks. -PRAHLADBalaji 19:11, 12 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Edit shortcut not working on Firefox for Mac

Hi. The access keys I have tried work (using ctrl+alt+key) but the shortcut with E to edit pages is not working in Firefox, at least on my Mac. It works in Chrome on my Mac. What might be causing this? Thanks, DemonDays64 (talk) 00:59, 4 October 2020 (UTC) (please ping on reply)[reply]

Howdy, I can confirm that same is true for me. Shortcut works correctly in Safari. Have reset all my prefs, and this did not fix it. [--Sillyputty1967 (talk) 14:37, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[User:Sillyputty1967]] @DemonDays64: Have you figured out a fix? Sillyputty1967 (talk) 14:37, 8 January 2021 (UTC) The key combo must be reserved for something else in Firefox? Sillyputty1967 (talk) 01:37, 12 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
