Halicephalobus mephisto és un nematode de la família Panagrolaimidae, descobert l'any 2011 pels geocientífics Gaetan Borgonie i Tullis Onstott. Aquest rabídid va ser detectat en aigua procedent de fractures situades entre 0.9 i 3.6 km de profunditat, en una mina d'or de Sudàfrica.[1]
