Vorlage:Current Vorlage:For Vorlage:For Vorlage:Infobox Single "Christmas Lights" is a song by British alternative rock band Coldplay released on Wednesday December 1, 2010, at 8PM GMT as a digital download.[1] It is a mid-tempo number in the key of G major.[2]

Release and promotion

The single's release date was announced through the official Coldplay website on November 24, 2010.[3] A countdown was also added to the homepage of the website, which counted down to December 1, 8pm GMT, in minutes and seconds.

Coldplay also released three short videos through their iTunes Ping page, showing the creation of the music video. A video was also released on their website, giving a preview of the music video and the song itself.

It was originally thought that "Christmas Lights" would be a song from their fifth album, but this was confirmed to not be the case by The Oracle on two separate occasions.[4][5]

Music video

Coldplay began filming the music video on November 24. It begins with the start up of a record player, and the camera pans across a self-playing piano, and then the four members of the band, wherein Martin begins to sing the first verse. The camera pans back to the piano, and Martin has changed his position, the rest of the band nowhere to be seen. He then begins to play the piano, which is now on a stage in front of the Thames. The band play the rest of the song, accompanied with fireworks and violin-playing Elvises. 100 fans of the band also appear in the music video, where they release balloons on a boat on the Thames whilst singing along to part of the song. The video was directed by Mat Whitecross, long-time friend of the band and director of many of Coldplay's previous music video, such as Bigger Stronger and Violet Hill.

Just hours after the release of the video, it was removed from Youtube after the IFPI claimed that it was a breach of copyright.[6]
