Vorlage:Use American English Vorlage:Use mdy dates Vorlage:Not to be confused Vorlage:Infobox album Pink Friday 2 is the upcoming fifth studio album by rapper Nicki Minaj. It is currently scheduled to be released on November 17, 2023.[1] A sequel to Minaj's debut album, Pink Friday (2010), it will be her first studio album in five years since Queen (2018).[2] The album was promoted with the lead single "Last Time I Saw You", and will also include the 2022-23 standalone singles "Super Freaky Girl" and "Red Ruby da Sleeze".
Background and recording
The album's existence was first teased on February 2, 2019, following the release of her Audiomack-exclusive, "Barbie Goin Bad", Minaj's remix of Meek Mill's January 2019, "Going Bad" featuring Drake, in which the album was stated as "the fifth thing thing".[3] On June 28, 2019, Minaj appeared on Jimmy Fallon's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in which she stated: "well, there's definitely a new album, of course", however, she continued to note that there was no official release date at the time: "with this one, I don't have a name yet".[4] In September 2019, Minaj announced her retirement from hip hop,[5] however, she later recanted her statement and apologized for her false announcement.[6]
In an interview with Elle, on September 17, 2019, Minaj stated that the album would be, "fierce, fun, and unapologetic" and spoke about the project's ultimate sound.Vorlage:Quote
The first teaser of the album was on June 29, 2020, after Minaj had taken to Twitter to tweet, "PF2", the initials of the album.[7]
On June 5, 2023, Minaj took to Twitter to announce that her new album would be released on October 20, 2023. On June 29, 2023, she announced the album's title as Pink Friday 2, and that the official release date was rescheduled to November 17, 2023.[8][9] She also stated that the album would be "well worth the wait", and followed up by a concert tour in 2024.[8]
Songs
On August 12, 2022, Minaj released the single "Super Freaky Girl".[10] With the song, Minaj became the first solo female rapper to debut at the summit of the Billboard Hot 100 since Lauryn Hill's "Doo Wop (That Thing)" in 1998 and the first female rapper to debut a solo song at number one in the 21st century.[11] On March 3, 2023, she followed it up with the song "Red Ruby da Sleeze", which peaked at number 13 on the U.S. Hot 100.[12][13] Both songs topped the Billboard Hot Rap Songs and Digital Song Sales charts.[14] Minaj confirmed both songs' inclusion on her forthcoming studio album on Twitter by refuting a fan's claim that they would not appear on the album, stating "Not on my album? #ComeOnSon stupid".[15]
On August 14, Minaj previewed a song titled "Last Time I Saw You" via her Instagram.[16] She shared the single cover art and pre-order link on social media 10 days later on August 25, prior to the release of the song on September 1, 2023.[17][18]
