  • curprev 18:1018:10, 3 October 2019 MrDemeanour talk contribs 14,140 bytes −191 OpenBSD kernel: Deleted complete rubbish. The PRNG "stretcher" used by a RNG does not affect the length to which a seed can be stretched. What makes the BSD RNG "infinitely" stretchable is that BSD doesn't indulge in the dubious practice of entropy estimation; BSD's entropy pool is not depleted after seeding. Linux assigns an arbitrary numerical value to the entropy that is added to it's pool, and depletes that value whenever /dev/[x]random is read. undo

And I do not think it is true that using /dev/urandom "depletes" /dev/random. Note that this is a contentious subject, and citeable sources are far and few. undo
