Red is a [[programming language]] made to improve upon the older Rebol programming language.<ref name="GS">{{cite web |title=Getting Started with GUI Programming using Red Language |url=https://www.studytonight.com/post/getting-started-with-gui-programming-using-red-programming-language |website=Studytonight |access-date=September 17, 2021}}</ref> It can be used for both high and low level programming.<ref name="MUO">{{cite web |title=6 Unusual & Groundbreaking Programming Languages to Learn in 2023|url=https://www.makeuseof.com/programming-languages-to-learn-in-2023/ |website=makeuseof.com |date=18 October 2023}}</ref> Red was created by Nenad Rakočević in 2011.<ref name="designer"></ref>

==Some technical details==

Red has two parts, Red/System and Red:{{Sfn|Balbaert|2018}}

* Red/System is a lower language that has a similar purpose to [[C_(programming_language)|C]], but uses a different [[syntax]].

* Red is a higher language and [[Interpreter_(computing)|interpreted]], used for [[General-purpose programming language|general-purpose]] tasks. 

The language is able to [[cross-platform|cross-compile]].{{Sfn|Balbaert|2018}} Red [[Computer_software|applications]] can run on many different [[operating systems]]. At this time, Red applications are [[32-bit_computing|32-bit]], but it is planned to switch to [[64-bit_computing|64-bit]] in the future.
