==Instructions on "Wiki code"==
Wikipedia articles have a special syntax that provides format, references and connectivity between different text areas and resources. Translating a Wikipedia article requires leaving this "metatext" undisturbed, as it will be used by the Wikipedia team to integrate the translations into the target-language Wikipedia.

The unique Wiki-markup does look a bit confusing at first and to assist our translators we always include this Support file you are reading now {''Instructions_on_Wiki_code''} on each job (top right).
As a general rule, no codes and no tags should be altered or deleted. This covers practically any and all symbols, double square brackets, greater/less-than signs, etc. This also includes double apostrophes that you may (reasonably) perceive as quotation marks. Double apostrophes in Wiki actually serve a function: they are used to italicize the text. Anything between the tags < ref > and should be left untranslated; these lead to the references listed in the footnotes. Blue texts between square brackets represent existing pages in Wikipedia and should be translated while keeping the brackets in place. An example for the blue hyperlink is [[virulent|potentially infectious]], where the word before the | is the title of the page where this word will link to, and the word(s) following the | is what readers will actually see in the article. It is recommended to translate all words on both sides of the | and the Wiki integrator can later verify if such page actually exists on the target Wikipedia or not.
In summary, when working with Wikipedia articles, deleting or altering even the most minute tag or code may have disastrous effects, so it's best to leave them. CAT tools are typically not recommended.
