Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Greece
![]() | Points of interest related to Greece on Wikipedia: Outline – History – Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Cleanup – Stubs – Assessment |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Greece. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Greece|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Greece. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Europe.

I'm not finding the required WP:SIGCOV to meet the WP:GNG, with only sources on unrelated people in a BEFORE, and a mention at [[1]]. Not seeing a clear redirect target here either seeing as the subject participated in two Olympics. Let'srun (talk) 00:57, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: People, Sportspeople, Olympics, and Greece. Let'srun (talk) 00:57, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- Redirect to Greece at the 1948 Summer Olympics#Rowing per nom. Fails GNG due to lack of SIGCOV. As he also participated in the 1952 Olympics, we could also redirect to Greece at the 1952 Summer Olympics#Rowing. Having multiple suitable redirect targets is not a valid reason to choose neither and delete anyway. Frank Anchor 02:50, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- Not opposed to either target provided a note is provided to readers that he participated in the other one. Otherwise I prefer deletion which allows for readers to see all articles mentioning the subject. Let'srun (talk) 02:51, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- This is feasible. I would suggest the hat note currently used for two time Olympian Kossi Akoto’s redirect to Togo at the 1992 Summer Olympics. Frank Anchor 02:55, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- That looks good to me. Let'srun (talk) 03:10, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- A search would not work in this case due to the disambiguator in the title. Redirection of an article with one or more valid targets is also preferred over deletion (for any case) as it maintains the history of the article. Frank Anchor 02:59, 17 July 2025 (UTC)

- Delete – Per lack of a clear redirect target. Svartner (talk) 02:51, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- Redirect as described by Frank Anchor. Available sourcing I could find is minimal and nonindependent, but preserving the page history seems like a good idea, as print sources could turn up in the future. – Ike Lek (talk) 03:18, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- Redirect to Greece at the Summer Olympics#Rowing per Frank Anchor. Blocked user Lugnuts created this article sometime back in 2018 and left it until today. In my option, this article fails WP:GNG and possibly notability guidelines for sportspeople since there is little significant coverage. Galaxybeing (talk) 10:36, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- Redirect per Frank Anchor. Surayeproject3 (talk) 11:34, 17 July 2025 (UTC)

The purpose of this article is not clear. It seems to be a WP:NOTDICT violation largely duplicating the scope of Kleos. I have merged the remaining Greek content to that article and I request that this be redirected to Kleos. The remaining content, the section on Jorge Manrique, does not seem relevant to the topic of "glory". Toadspike [Talk] 14:59, 16 July 2025 (UTC)
- Note: This discussion has been included in the deletion sorting lists for the following topics: Philosophy and Greece. Toadspike [Talk] 14:59, 16 July 2025 (UTC)
- Keep – The notion of glory as honor or renown is discussed at length across philosophy (e.g., Paul J. Silva, Res Philosophica, 2018) and theology (e.g., Hans Urs von Balthasar’s multi-volume The Glory of the Lord), easily satisfying WP:N; while the Greek-specific material can be trimmed or merged back to Kleos, the broader, cross-cultural concept is independently notable and should remain in a standalone, properly sourced article. Aeon Sentinel (talk) 15:30, 16 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Aeon Sentinel, we already have an article on glory in Abrahamic theology: Glory (religion). Do you see a need to split discussion of glory in Abrahamic theology across two articles? I am no theologian, but this article is currently focused on glory as personal honor/fame/saving face, which I believe is not what glory is generally taken to mean when referring to God.
- The first source [2] mentions "honor" once, in a quote. The second source I am not able to access in full, but the Internet Archive has one volume [3] which doesn't mention "honor" at all. I don't see why these sources cannot be used to expand Glory (religion) instead. Toadspike [Talk] 21:00, 16 July 2025 (UTC)
- Merge to Kleos, seems a fork basically. At first, I thought this was referring to Glory (religious iconography) when I saw the AFD. Metallurgist (talk) 23:56, 16 July 2025 (UTC)
- I've already merged all the relevant content. Toadspike [Talk] 08:13, 17 July 2025 (UTC)

- Delete per WP:NOTDICT: most exonym articles are indiscriminate lists of examples of the trivial and obvious fact that each language adapts foreign names to its own phonology and/or orthography. If such lists were confined to examples about which something more could be said, e.g. those that are unrelated to the endonym or distorted by false etymology, I'd say keep. I'd also preserve places in Turkey from which Greeks were expelled. —Tamfang (talk) 21:20, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
- While I think your approach is a bit too narrow, I agree with the broad strokes. That being said, if this is deleted, I have no reason to believe that the bits you are saying to keep will be saved. Unfortunately List of Greek exonyms in Turkey has been deleted, granted based on the AfD it may have had quality issues. Ike Lek (talk) 22:24, 15 July 2025 (UTC)

- It would have been helpful if you had made note of his Greek Wikipedia page. el:Μάκης Κολέθρας It isn't well sourced, but it gives a lot of information helpful to finding sources, like the name he is more commonly referred to by. His wikidata seems messed up.

This page does not fit with WP:GNG and there are very little/no sources that purely cover this this part of Athens. It is not significant enough to have its own article. The article maybe could be merged into the Athens article or just totally deleted. Floating Orb Let's talk! 17:13, 13 July 2025 (UTC)

- This could potentally be merged to Attica (region) along with South Athens (regional unit), North Athens (regional unit), and the other regional units listed at Regional units of Greece. But as a part of a set of administrative areas, it doesn't make sense to delete this or merge to the Athens municipal article. Reywas92Talk 02:12, 14 July 2025 (UTC)
- Okay. Floating Orb Talk! edits 03:16, 14 July 2025 (UTC)
- Also @Reywas92, both of those articles South Athens (regional unit) and North Athens (regional unit) aren't the greatest either, so I agree to merge. Floating Orb Talk! edits 03:19, 14 July 2025 (UTC)
