Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Philippines
![]() | Points of interest related to Philippines on Wikipedia: Outline – History – Portal – Category – WikiProject – Deletions – Cleanup – Stubs – Assessment – To-do |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Philippines. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Philippines|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Philippines. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Asia.

The article lacks significant coverage in reliable sources. The references only offer passing mentions and didn't provide in-depth information to support a standalone article or biography, failing yo meet the criteria of WP:GNG and WP:BLP. ROY is WAR Talk! 08:20, 17 July 2025 (UTC)

Fails WP:NCORP. Source 1 barely mentions the company. Sources 2, 3 and 5 are very similar; 3 and 5 appear to be unbylined press releases and 2 is churnalism of the same press release. Source 4 is non-independent as practically all information comes from the mouth of cofounder Alexander Aronson. Sources 6 and 7 don't load (probably a result of using ChatGPT). I can't find any non-routine coverage of the company. Helpful Raccoon (talk) 01:54, 17 July 2025 (UTC)

Barely any reliable sources seen in Google Books and in an outside search. His role doesn't seem notable, as he doesn't have any coverage (the movement seems quite notable but only in law sources). Other than that, he isn't notable whatsoever. 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 (My "blotter")

04:08, 16 July 2025 (UTC) - Comment: I was unable to find a copy of the listed reference - Elvin A. Cabañero; Higino M. Acala Jr. (2000). Biography of Higino Acala Sr - on the Internet; though as one of the authors appears to be his son, it is probably not sufficiently independent regardless. Curbon7 (talk) 04:23, 16 July 2025 (UTC)
- I've spent some more time looking for sources with a number of search queries, but none have returned any significant coverage (actually, this returned almost no sourcing at all besides name-drops in lists of lawyers in the Philippines [1]), and I do not think the book above would be reliable as it is written by two relatives. The subject did not hold an WP:NPOL-qualifying position, nor does he appear to pass WP:GNG. There is no obvious WP:ATD target, so delete. Curbon7 (talk) 04:43, 18 July 2025 (UTC)

Was deprodded without improvement. Currently, zero in-depth sourcing, and Searches did not turn up enough in-depth coverage from independent, reliable sources to support meeting WP:GNG. Onel5969 TT me 01:04, 13 July 2025 (UTC)

- Keep - the "National School" system is akin to the specialized high schools of NYC, or those affiliated with other normal schools. Each province had one. I'll try to find better sources. Bearian (talk) 01:44, 9 July 2025 (UTC)
- National high schools are schools that are financed by the national government; asidfe from that there are no other differences with other public high schools. Howard the Duck (talk) 10:59, 9 July 2025 (UTC)
- My understanding is that National Schools system are selective-admissions and administered schools in the Philippines. Principals get to exclude certain students. They are also schools run with Normal school techniques: student teachers are trained there. (This might have changed in the past few years, and since the information is from my partner's family, it's always subject to verification.) In addition, they get an outsized amount of coverage, which can be seen in Google books and Google news. Bearian (talk) 11:30, 10 July 2025 (UTC)
- National schools are financed and administered by the national government, otherwise they have the same enrollment standards as compared to other schools which are administered by the local government. These national schools are always at the provincial capital or at the largest city or town of a congressional district, that's why they have more coverage than the ones elsewhere tucked away.
- Some national schools have certain themes like a national high school for the blind, or for arts and trades. There are also other schools such as science high schools which indeed have more stringent qualification criteria than national or local high schools; I think this is the one that you are alluding to. - Keep - the National Schools system are selective-admissions, special funded, and administered schools in the Philippines. This school in particular has gotten significant coverage in books and the media. Bearian (talk) 11:22, 10 July 2025 (UTC)
- There were 6 books search hits. Three were government sources about laws appropriating the school its budget, as it is a national school and is financed and controlled by the national government. Financing this school is on every annual national budget, so if Google Books has copies of the national budget or the Congressional Record starting from 2004, there'd be 21 such instances. I do not think that counts as WP:GNG. Two seem to be biographies about authors (not WP:GNG for the school per se), and the other seems to be a bad hit.
- There are five media sources. These looks to be (1) 6 Valenzuela schools getting computers, of which this school is one of them, (2) back to school news with the same old problems (not specific for this school, FWIW), (1) some student from this school winning an award (not WP:GNG for this school per se), and (1) students from this school going to the public library for national library day (you could argue this to be WP:GNG for the school, the library, or both). These are individual seasons of the UNTV Cup, an amateur basketball league for charity aired by UNTV with teams composed of players from different Philippine government agencies. While the general tournament per se may be notable, individual seasons are not. This has been tagged for years, and is almost exclusively referenced to UNTV or to UNTV Cup, a case of WP:PRIMARY.
