Hello, PequodOnStationAtLZ. I noticed that your recent edit to 1962 Texas gubernatorial election added a link to an image on an external website or on your computer, or to a file name that does not exist on Wikipedia's server. For technical and policy reasons it is not possible to use images from external sources on Wikipedia. Most images you find on the internet are copyrighted and cannot be used on Wikipedia, or their use is subject to certain restrictions. If the image meets Wikipedia's image use policy, consider uploading it to Wikipedia yourself or request that someone else upload it. See the image tutorial to learn about wiki syntax used for images. [edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Oscar García Rivera, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page New York. Thank you for creating page for 2003 SF District Attorney Election
[edit]I was thrilled to see your wiki page on the 2003 SF DA Election and that you chose 2 of my wikimedia photos (Hallinan and Fazio). This was my intention when I made the photos 20-25 years ago: that the photos be used for information when needed. The photos I want to see are straight representation: a face with two eyes, a nose and a mouth with one or two ears showing. It seems to me that the award-winning newspaper photographers all want to shoot esoteric photos with a 'decisive moment' which sometimes don't include a face that you can identify. In 2003, Kamala Harris handed out a professional photo of herself to the mass media ( with catch lights in the eyes and perfect makeup), while Terrence Hallinan and Bill Fazio, her opponents in the DA race had few photos. White men need representation, too. Edmunddantes (talk) 23:00, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for leaving that message, Nancy. It made my day. As someone with a deep love for politics and the city of San Francisco, I'm deeply jealous of the fact you've gotten to photograph all these people over the years. One of the main reasons I made an account on here was because of how important it is, I think, to put faces to names. There were and still are so many fascinating people this site has profiled that don't have pictures, and every time I get to fix that it makes me feel like I'm doing something that matters. To me, a good picture tells just as much as a good biography. PequodOnStationAtLZ (talk) 03:10, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
Marc Anthony (California politician moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, Marc Anthony (California politician, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Grigory Zinoviev portrait
[edit]I really commend you for your work on obtaining high-quality portraits for early Soviet and other historical figures. You have a good eye for encyclopedic choices. Could you review the images used on the article for Grigory Zinoviev and edit accordingly? I feel that the infobox image in particular could use replacement. — Goszei (talk) 06:36, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- Nikolai Bukharin is another potential target for image improvement, in my eyes. — Goszei (talk) 06:49, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you so much! It always makes my day to know people notice my work. I took a look at Zinoviev and Bukharin and here's what I found:
- For Zinoviev, I honestly don't hate his current picture that much. There really aren't very many good pictures of him floating around, so at least this one is a proper high-resolution portrait. I was able to find this portrait ( File:G. Zinoviev, President of the Petrograd Soviet Alt Edit.jpg ) but it's about the same quality and lower resolution. I'd personally be partial to just reverting the current infobox picture to its non-cropped version ( File:Grigorii Zinovieff 1920.jpg ).
- Bukharin was much easier. There are dozens of variations of that famous picture of him with the worker's cap and leather jacket, and before long I found this high-resolution version ( File:N.I. Bukharin (1888-1938).jpg ) which I then cropped down a bit for the infobox. I also found one of his Okhrana mugshots! ( File:Bukharin, Nikolai Ivanovich 1909–1911.jpg )
- I hope I was able to be of some help. If you have any other articles you'd like me to take a look at, don't hesitate to drop me a line. PequodOnStationAtLZ (talk) 18:49, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for your attention. I am somewhat partial to File:G. Zinoviev, President of the Petrograd Soviet Edit.jpg, and love the work you've done on Bukharin's article. — Goszei (talk) 18:54, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- I uploaded a new portrait at File:Grigory Zinoviev circa 1920.jpg, which I think is even more suitable for the infobox. Not sure if the licensing/source information is acceptable, could use a double check. — Goszei (talk) 23:08, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- Oh wow nice find! Yeah that's much better. Should be good as far as licensing is concerned. PequodOnStationAtLZ (talk) 23:22, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Categories: avoid putting an article in a category and also in a subcategory
[edit]Thanks for trying to help with categories in Margaret Sanger article. When a category X has subcategories, such as X1, X2, X3, the WP:Categorization policy says "Pages (and sub-categories) should not normally be placed in both a given category, and any of its subcategories or parent categories."
Example: if M. Sanger is from New York state, and if there are two possible categories:
- Members of the Socialist Party of America
- Members of the Socialist Party of America from New York (state)
Then only one of those two should be in the category list at the bottom of her page. Normally, that would be the subcategory (New York..). If that rule did not exist, many article could end up being in hundreds of categories.
The WP:Categorization calls such subcategories "diffusing", which is a confusing word, but that is the word you'll see in the policy to discuss this kind of situation.
If you're adding articles to categories: you should check to see if the article is in a category AND also in a subcat (of that category) and - generally - remove it from the parent category. Noleander (talk) 19:33, 27 June 2025 (UTC)

- No problem! Generally speaking if a lower resolution version has already been uploaded and hasn't been taken down in a substantial amount of time, you should be able to upload a higher-resolution version. You can either overwite the old file on its page or upload it as an all-new file. If it's never been uploaded, 9 times out of 10 "PD-US-no notice" or "PD-US-not renewed" cover it. Sometimes you can tell it was published on the page (like when it cites the news agency or when it's obviously clipped from a periodical or book), but if not you can check newspaper archives or Internet Archive or HathiTrust and you might get lucky and find that it was published without a copyright notice. Happy hunting! PequodOnStationAtLZ (talk) 02:51, 12 August 2025 (UTC)

[edit]First off, I would like to deeply thank you for the images you have uploaded to José Angel Gutiérrez, Reies López Tijerina, Willie Velásquez, Ramsey Muñiz, Alma Canales, Rosie Castro, Martín Serna, Herman Baca, Manuela Solis Sager, Raúl Grijalva, and Corky Gonzales's pages as well as other images of Chicanos to Wikimedia Commons. It is how I noticed your work and I was wondering if you could explain your process so I may improve my own articles and contribute images to others as I currently only contribute what is clearly in the public domain, e.g. pre-1930 works and most 20th-century yearbooks. For example, I created Eva de la O and Ramón "Chunky" Sánchez, with both having a 1980s image ([1] and [2], respectively). Additionally, Wikimedia tags delineate between pre- and post-1978 images, so is there any difference in your process? For example, I have personal interest in the images of George Wallace's 1968 rally in Springfield, Missouri ([3]). XxTechnicianxX (talk) 04:00, 4 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hey there! Thank you so much for reaching out. I'm glad my work is being noticed.
- In terms of my process, it depends on where I'm sourcing the image. Just as a frame of reference, these are (most) of the resources I use to pull images:
- Wikimedia Commons
- Google Images
- Library of Congress
- National Archives
- Digital Public Library of America
- Specialized digital collections (Center for Jewish History, Washington State Archives, Tamiment Library, etc.)
- Internet Archive
- HathiTrust
- Newspapers.com
- Specialized newspaper archives (Chronicling America, California newspapers, Jewish Daily Forward, etc.)
- Getty Images
- eBay
- Ancestry.com
- Yearbooks
- Sometimes I'll even combine these sources, using Newspapers.com to verify that a higher quality picture I found on, say, Google Images was published in a timeframe that makes it public domain. If it's anything published before 1930 of course it's fair game, but in my experience a lot (maybe even most) of what was published between 1930 and 1989 was either never copyrighted or the pre-1963 copyright wasn't renewed.
- Take Corky's pictures for instance. I got lucky with one I found on HathiTrust being published by the US government, but the rest I just perused the full issues of the newspapers they were published in for a copyright notice. If there's no "copyright" or "©" symbol, it *should* be in the public domain. If a paper does have such a notice, it's almost always on the on the front page or in the masthead on the first or second page.
- The same really goes for most, if not all publications. I found Gutierrez's top picture from a yearbook where he wasn't a student but a guest speaker; no copyright notice. The "Tijerina for Governor" poster was published in a copyrighted work, but since it was a picture of the poster which was of course published first outside of the book, it's also not copyrighted. - Thank you for the explanation. I will use this information from now on to polish articles. Keep up the good work, friend. In solidarity, XxTechnicianxX (talk) 04:45, 4 September 2025 (UTC)
A barnstar for you!
[edit]| The Original Barnstar | |
| Thanks for adding the pictures to the James E. Jackson article. I didn't realize how prolific you were at finding pictures of people until seeing the above talk page section on your search methods. Perhaps could you give a check to John P. Morris? Thanks for your work on Wikipedia! Roast (talk) 01:42, 8 September 2025 (UTC) |
- Wow! My first barnstar! Thanks so much! Always glad to know my work is being seen.
- After a bit of looking I was able to find exactly one (1) picture of Morris that seems to be in the public domain. Not the best, but better than nothing. I found some really good color photos in the Teamsters magazine on Internet Archive, but sadly they're all copyrighted. Anyway, if there's anything else you think of that you want some pictures for, don't hesitate to reach out! PequodOnStationAtLZ (talk) 03:23, 8 September 2025 (UTC)
- Well that's most definitely a picture. Can't complain though. Roast (talk) 03:56, 8 September 2025 (UTC)
- Reaching back out: Augusta Strong North and Dorothy Burnham. Also Mildred MaAdory, who I wouldn't give priority to until her article is created, which I plan to do when Wikipedia Library fixes that negative contributions bug. Roast (talk) 22:16, 28 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hey Roast, thanks for reaching out! Always glad to ahve something to do.
- It took some digging, but I was able to find one (1) picture of Strong-North in the The Worker archives.
- For Burnham I kept it simple and found her college yearbook photo on Facebook. I would have used one of these pictures of her with Angela Davis but I couldn't find any of them published in the Daily World archives on Newspapers.com.
- McAdory, despite not having a page yet, was ironically the easiest to find pictures of. I found a couple good ones that I put together in Category:Mildred McAdory.
- Hope these are good! PequodOnStationAtLZ (talk) 00:15, 29 September 2025 (UTC)

Death by Lighting trailer released
[edit]If you haven't heard the news, a trailer has been released for the upcoming Netflix series Death by Lightning, about James Garfield and Charles Guiteau. 213.78.197.63 (talk) 19:32, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
- Oh nice! I'd heard about it a few months ago, but this new trailer is awesome. Thanks for letting me know. PequodOnStationAtLZ (talk) 19:46, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
By the way, I have started a talk on the Guiteau article, because there seem to be differing accounts as to Guiteau behaved in the moments before his death. 213.78.197.63 (talk) 19:49, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
In the "trial and execution" section, I think the phrase "He was oblivious to the American public's hatred of him, even after he was almost assassinated twice himself" could be changed to "even after he was almost killed twice himself". To one degree, Guiteau wasn't a politician or major public figure. 213.78.197.63 (talk) 19:56, 9 October 2025 (UTC)
Minor edits
[edit]A recent edit of yours on Mathew Brady was marked as 'minor' but it could quite possibly seem not to be a minor edit, keeping in mind the explanatory text "A good rule of thumb is that only edits consisting solely of spelling corrections, formatting changes, or rearrangement of text without modification of the content may be flagged as minor edits." Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 17:15, 14 October 2025 (UTC)
Images
[edit]How did you find the more polished picture of Czolgosz? If you had enhanced it yourself, please do the same for prison card, and add it to his page. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Prison_card_of_Leon_Czolgosz.jpg Twig23 (talk) 22:40, 17 October 2025 (UTC)
- The one in his infobox or the mugshot? The former I found at the Digital Public Library of America. The latter I found by going to the Internet Archive link for a lower resolution version, finding the page, and zooming way in so the resolution increases, then right clicking and opening in a new tab. I went ahead and did the same for that picture and added it to his page. Thanks for reaching out! PequodOnStationAtLZ (talk) 23:04, 17 October 2025 (UTC)
- I was talking about both pictures, but especially the infobox one, since it's way more enhanced than the old info picture. Twig23 (talk) 23:56, 17 October 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah I just got lucky with that one. It's cuz there's hundreds of digital collections like that at various libraries, universities, etc. The Digital Public Library of America brings them all together so you can search them all at once. Really handy. PequodOnStationAtLZ (talk) 00:01, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
