Hello, Khaatir, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like this place and decide to stay.

Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
How do I create an article?
See how to create your first article, then use the Article Wizard to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.
How do I create citations?
  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
  2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
  4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?
A WikiProject is a group of editors that are interested in improving the coverage of certain topics on Wikipedia. (See this page for a complete list of WikiProjects.) If you would like to help, add your username to the list that is on the bottom of the WikiProject page.

@Faismeen Thank you very much. When I first joined Wikipedia, you were the very first person who guided me and connected me with others who could further support and mentor me. Whatever little I have achieved here, a great share of the credit goes to your early guidance and encouragement. Much appreciated. Khaatir (talk) 03:56, 20 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

How

[edit]

About this: What I'd really like to know, is how you found WT:COUNCIL at all? It's the kind of page that's mostly lost, but you aren't the first person this year to post a similar note. So I've been wondering if there's a link somewhere that's sending people like yourself to the wrong page. Maybe a broken template on an article talk page? If you've got any ideas for what I should be looking for, I'd be grateful to have them. Because of course you should make WP:APPNOTE notifications for AFDs, only you'd want them to go someplace that's actually useful. WhatamIdoing (talk) 04:26, 26 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@WhatamIdoing Sorry for the confusion. I actually intended to post a neutral AfD notification at WikiProject Islam or WikiProject Biography, but by mistake I clicked the 'WikiProject Council' link and ended up here. On those WikiProject pages, the line 'This is a WikiProject, an area for focused collaboration among Wikipedians' appears with the WikiProject link. I clicked on that without realizing it redirected me to the WikiProject Council page. I didn’t notice I was on the wrong talk page and posted without checking. This was an accidental error, not intentional canvassing. Khaatir (talk) 04:36, 26 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for this description. As you can see, it's a very confusing set up. You clicked on the only link in Template:WikiProject status (100% reasonable of you!), which takes you Wikipedia:WikiProject, but its talk page redirects to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Council (a very surprising and unwanted result for you). What's needed in Template:WikiProject status is a link to the actual WikiProject's talk page – to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Islam, in your example.
This 'bug' has bit several editors already this year. Let me go talk to the folks at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) and see if we can fix this template for everyone. Thank you so much for the detailed description. It's exactly what I needed to know. WhatamIdoing (talk) 17:20, 26 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @WhatamIdoing, thank you once again for the follow-up and for taking this matter seriously.
After carefully reviewing what happened, I’d like to clarify in more detail with the help of a screen recording that I’ve now reviewed again to understand my own mistake more clearly.
1. What I Intended to Do
I meant to post a neutral AfD notification on either:
WikiProject Islam (WP:ISLAM), or
WikiProject Biography (WP:BIO)
because the article was relevant to both.
2. What Happened Instead
On those WikiProject pages, there's a line that says:
“This is a WikiProject, an area for focused collaboration…”
and within that sentence, the word WikiProject is linked.
It wasn’t that I intended to go there—in fact, I accidentally clicked that link without realizing where it led, so it was an unintentional mistake.
Best regards, Khaatir (talk) 00:59, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The Teamwork Barnstar
Template:WikiProject status has been updated. Please have a look at pages like Wikipedia:WikiProject Islam to see the effect. The link to the desired talk page is now in bold. I hope that it works better for everyone now. I really appreciate your patient help and your clear, detailed explanation. We wouldn't have found the real source of the problem without you. WhatamIdoing (talk) 16:15, 1 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
    • Thank you very much for the barnstar and for updating the template. I really appreciate the encouragement and the effort you put into this.
    • What happened was this: while I was on the WikiProject Islam or WikiProject Biography page, I accidentally clicked on the word WikiProject in the sentence (“This is a WikiProject, an area for focused collaboration among Wikipedians.”; at the time this was the sentence shown, though I notice the wording has since changed). That took me to Wikipedia:WikiProject, but at the time I didn’t realize I had left the original page. Then, when I clicked on the Talk tab there, it sent me to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Council.

Information icon Hello, I'm Zackmann08. Thank you for your recent contributions to Bibliography of Deobandi movement. When you were adding content to the page, you added duplicate arguments to a template which can cause issues with how the template is rendered. In the future, please use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find these errors as they will display in yellow at the top of the page. Thanks. Shu’ara or Shūra

[edit]

I hope you’re doing well. Thank you for kindly reverting my edit, I was only trying to find the correct transliteration of the word. In my region we pronounce Qadir and Khadir, and likewise Shūra and Shu’ara. My apologies for the mistake, and thank you again for your help. Taabii (talk) 14:32, 13 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Taabii The term intended in the article is shūrā (الشورى, “council”), not shuʿarāʾ (الشعراء, “poets”). The distinction is important in this context. Thank you for noting the point. Khaatir (talk) 14:37, 13 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

October 2025

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your recent edits to Usman Ghani Qasmi when you modified the page, you introduced unknown parameters. Just because you specify |some_param=some_variable does not always mean that variable will display. The |some_param= must be defined in the template. You can look at the documentation for the template you are using but it is also helpful to use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and ensure that the values you have added are displaying correctly. Below the edit box is a Show preview button. Pressing this will show you what the page will look like without actually saving it. It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. If you have any questions, contact the help desk for assistance. Thank you. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 20:06, 23 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
