Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because your account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
  • Provide a new username.

To do this, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Alexf(talk) 02:05, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I don't want to change my user name, because "Earl Ruby" is my real name, not a company name and not an organization name. I am not paid by anyone to edit Wikipedia pages. I am employed by VMware, and I have some knowledge of their products, but they don't pay me to edit Wikipedia pages. I only edit pages that I have some knowledge about. Most recently I made edits to the (Intel) Advanced Matrix Extensions page because I just gave a talk about Advanced Matrix Extensions at the VMware Explore conference, so I have a bit of knowledge about AMX. The page contained one error (which I fixed) and didn't it list a compatible version of ESXi on the Operating Systems List (which I added). Both of these edits were intended to improve the accuracy of the page. I included comments with the reasons for each edit when I submitted them. I used my own blog as a source for the specific version of ESXi that's compatible with AMX because VMware's page for HW v20 doesn't (yet) list AMX as a new feature. I have also submitted a "fix document request" to VMware for their web page for HW v20. If they add the AMX info I'll include their page as an additional "source" for the information. Decline reason:

You don't need to change your username as you are Mr. Ruby. If you are employed by VMware, however, you are a paid editor, you do not need to be specifically paid to make edits. Using your own blog as a source was inappropriate on a few levels, one as it's your blog it is a severe conflict of interest as well as promotional for you to link to it, and furthermore blogs are not usually considered reliable sources as they lack fact checking and editorial control. You should be citing the sources you use on your blog, not your blog directly. You won't be unblocked to, at this time, make further COI related edits, so we will need to know what you will edit about instead. I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 09:25, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Please go to Google and search for '"amx" esxi hw version 20' and see what other sources show the ESXI OS version that supports the AMX instruction set. Pick the source that meets your criteria and I'll remove the link to my blog and link to the source of your choosing.
Please include a decline or accept reason.
