Information icon Hello, I'm Arjayay. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Punjab Province (British India) have been undone because they did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Teahouse or the Help desk. Thanks. - Arjayay (talk) 11:13, 9 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Arjayay Sir, people often read a new article after finishing a full one. The topics I added are related to this article, and readers may wish to explore them further—especially if they want to read in more detail about those subjects. ChronoVeritasScavenger (talk) 11:25, 9 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We try to avoid clutter in our articles, which is why MOS:NOTSEEALSO limits what can be in a "See also" section. - Arjayay (talk) 11:30, 9 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Ixudi. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Chamba State, but you didn't provide a reliable source. On Wikipedia, it's important that article content be verifiable. If you'd like to resubmit your change with a citation, your edit is archived in the page history. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Ixudi (talk) 10:58, 10 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sir @Ixudi, Is Hariram gupta is not a reliable source?
I’ve re-added content with a clearly marked source that is being used strictly for factual reference, such as administrative boundaries and treaty terms — not interpretation or analysis. ChronoVeritasScavenger (talk) 11:23, 10 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If Hariram Gupta is writing prior to independence then yes, it would not be a reliable source. Please see WP:RAJ and WP:AGEMATTERS. Ixudi (talk) 11:31, 10 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your input.
Regarding your comment, I would like to clarify that the source by Hari Ram Gupta, published in 1991, contains valuable historical context.
For the re-added content, I have clearly marked the source, which is strictly used for factual reference, particularly for administrative boundaries and treaty terms, and not for interpretation or analysis. Additionally, I have included a modern, reliable source (HP Chamba History), which corroborates these details and aligns with the state’s current historical framework.
I believe these references adhere to Wikipedia's WP:RAJ and WP:AGEMATTERS guidelines and help provide a more accurate and verifiable account of the history.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to your feedback. ChronoVeritasScavenger (talk) 11:42, 10 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The problematic aspect of your edit is the inclusion of “ A Collection Of Treaties, Engagements, And Sanads Vol-xii Relating To Jammu And Kashmir Sikkim Assam And Burma”. You can include the later sources but don’t include this one. Ixudi (talk) 11:50, 10 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your feedback.
regarding the inclusion of "A Collection of Treaties, Engagements, and Sanads Vol-XII Relating to Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim, Assam, and Burma," I want to clarify that this source is being used strictly for factual reference—particularly for administrative boundaries and treaty terms. It is not being used for interpretation or analysis, and it provides essential context for the topic. In addition to this, I’ve also re-added content with a clearly marked source that corroborates these details.
Additionally, I have included a modern, reliable source from the HP Chamba History website, which aligns with the information provided in the older source and supports the accuracy of the content.
It is also important to note that in your recent edit, you removed a paragraph that referenced the Hari Ram Gupta source, which was included in the earlier version.
I hope this clears up any misunderstandings, and I look forward to your feedback.
Thank you! ChronoVeritasScavenger (talk) 12:05, 10 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn’t matter what it’s being used for. Per community consensus, it’s not appropriate for use on Wikipedia and will be removed. The other sources are fine. Ixudi (talk) 12:20, 10 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your feedback.
I understand your position regarding "A Collection of Treaties, Engagements, and Sanads Vol-XII," and I’m happy to go along with removing it, as per community consensus.
That being said, I would kindly ask if you could restore the paragraph referencing Hari Ram Gupta, which was removed in your recent edit.
I appreciate your collaboration in ensuring that the article remains accurate and well-sourced. Thank you again for your attention to this! ChronoVeritasScavenger (talk) 12:26, 10 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Please feel free to restore the content that has been sourced from reliable, modern sources.
Kind regards! Ixudi (talk) 12:43, 10 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your message. I appreciate your willingness to restore content that has been sourced from reliable, modern sources. Could you kindly restore the paragraph. I believe this will ensure the page remains well-sourced and accurate. Thank you for your help, and I look forward to your response! ChronoVeritasScavenger (talk) 12:49, 10 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

WP:RAJ

[edit]

Hi, are you aware of Wikipedia:RAJ? Usually, British Raj-era sources, such as district gazetteers, are not considered reliable sources for history on Wikipedia. MaplesyrupSushi (talk) 12:45, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi sir @MaplesyrupSushi just to confirm—are British Raj-era sources considered unreliable only for historical narratives, or does that also apply to factual data like census figures and boundaries?
Thanks! ChronoVeritasScavenger (talk) 12:59, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@ChronoVeritasScavenger - I believe the censuses are fine to use for demographics (I see them being cited all the time). For boundaries, I am unsure but modern sources are preferred. They are definitely not reliable for historical narratives as they were written by colonial administrators with biases, not trained academics. MaplesyrupSushi (talk) 13:03, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for explaining the policies,sir @MaplesyrupSushi ChronoVeritasScavenger (talk) 13:17, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@ChronoVeritasScavenger - You are welcome, keep up the good work! MaplesyrupSushi (talk) 13:18, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @ChronoVeritasScavenger, I plan to create articles on these lesser-known, Sikh-ruled, cis-Sutlej states in the near-future. Perhaps we can collaborate together on the project. MaplesyrupSushi (talk) 22:09, 30 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
