Appearance
Let's practise markup!
[edit]It would be really embarrassing to run around editing pages without knowing what was going on. So, here we go.
Links
[edit]BasicWikiLinks
[edit]- Grue
- Pipelinks are awesome
- Links to other namespaces look something like Wikipedia:Manual of Style
- Namespace references can be hidden using empty pipes: Manual of Style
- So can things in brackets: kingdom
- You can hide both: Manual of Style
- [[Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Links|]] does NOT hide anything (or even work).
- Links to specific places on pages use the # symbol:
- Economics#See also goes to the See also section on Economics
- #External Links links to the External Links section of this page
Meta-ish WikiLinks
[edit]- Self-links like User:TheRealInsomnius/Sandbox show up in bold
- Pages on what links here - Special:Whatlinkshere/Grue - and related changes
Special:Recentchangeslinked/Grue
- User's contributions: Special:Contributions/TheRealInsomnius
- Adding a page to a category (best placed at end of edit box): [[Category: Examples]
- Linking to a category: place a colon before "Category": Category:Example
External Links
[edit]- Interlanguage links aren't really external, but who cares.
- Should be placed at the end of the edit box, but the link will always be in the same place.
- fr:Encyclopedia (colon at beginning makes it self-translate?)
General Formatting
[edit]Lines that begin with a space will be pre-formatted
- More than one single quotation mark is used for emphasis. emphasised, strong, 'strongly emphasised'
- Monospace text or
computer codeuse HTML(/esque) tags - Small text (made as in HTML) can be used for captions.
Deletedand inserted may be appropriate on Talk pages. Not to be used in articles.- Diacriticals, symbols etc. use code for HTML entities.
Centering text is done as in HTML
Misc
[edit]More than one way to sign your name, all varying numbers of tildes. This should be done when adding something to a Talk page.

Confusing Stuff
[edit]- Redirecting
- apparently #REDIRECT Grue on the first line of an article causes a redirect. Not clear on how that works.
