Comment: A singular inquest into an event that does not otherwise meet WP:NEVENT will not be notabile enough for a stand-alone article. The best move forward for this topic would be to place some (a paragraph at most) into the article at University Hospital Limerick, without overtaking the article (with respect to WP:DUE). Hope this helps. Bobby Cohn 🍁 (talk) 15:27, 11 September 2025 (UTC)
Draft: Second Inquest in Ireland
[edit]In March 2023, a historic second inquest was ordered into the death of Michael Daly, who had died in 2010 at University Hospital Limerick. The move was regarded as unprecedented in Irish law, as it marked the first time a coroner’s court in Ireland reopened a case to hold a second inquest into a person’s death.[1]
The decision followed years of campaigning by Daly family, who argued that the initial inquest had not adequately examined the circumstances of his death. The second inquest was granted after legal submissions highlighted new medical evidence and concerns about the completeness of the first inquiry.
Commentators noted that the case could set an important precedent for the Irish coronial system, potentially opening the door for future second inquests in exceptional cases where significant new evidence emerges or where the adequacy of an earlier investigation is called into question.[2]
In addition to pursuing justice through the courts, **Mike Daly Jnr** founded *Medical Records Research Ireland*, a company aimed at helping families with concerns about medical negligence.[3]
In January 2023, Mike Daly Jnr organised a protest in Limerick city. An estimated **11,000 people** took part, demonstrating against conditions and wait times at University Hospital Limerick, particularly in the Emergency Department.[4]
He has announced plans to publish a book about his father’s case and the family's long campaign for justice.<ref same as above 7</ref>
