Dr. Imani J. Walker (born December 30, 1975), known publicly as "Dr. Imani" or "Doctor Imani", is an American psychiatrist, television personality, author, and podcast host. Born in Harlem, New York, she is best known for appearing as a current cast member of Bravo's reality television series 'Married to Medicine: Los Angeles,' as well as hosting the 'Imani State of Mind' podcast, and making guest appearances on various media and news outlets.[1]

Early Life and Education

Walker grew up in Harlem and is of Chinese-Jamaican decent. She is the daughter of former NBCUniversal executive and news media mogul Paula Williams Madison.

She completed her undergraduate training at Xavier University of Louisiana (1997) as well as earning a Master's in Science in Public Health from Tulane University (1998). Walker later obtained her medical degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine (2004) and completed her training at esteemed medical institutions, including Temple University and Harbor-UCLA (2005, 2009). In 2010, she completed her Forensic Psychiatry fellowship from the Sepulveda VA-UCLA Forensic Psychiatry Program.[1]

Career

After completing a fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry, she opened a private practice in Southern California. She is currently Chief Medical Officer at Gateways Hospital & Mental Health Center. Her focus is caring for acutely ill psychiatric patients, including those with extensive forensic backgrounds, as well as providing mental health care to the homeless and indigent populations. Walker also serves as a board member to the Made of Millions Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit organization on a mission to change how the world perceives mental health.[1]

Walker is currently the host of the 'Imani State of Mind' podcast[2], a member of the More Sauce network on Stitcher[3]. She is also in the process of writing her first book, which will debut in 2021.
