Template:Old Style to New Style/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Usage

[edit]

This template is used for displaying a date in both Old Style and New Style, including a discreet link to the article Old Style and New Style dates, in cases where the year is the same in both Styles. The significant difference from template:OldStyleDate is that this template gives the Old Style date first and then the New Style date in parentheses, whereas the other template does the reverse. The reason to do so is to permit historical records to be quoted verbatim, using the dating scheme used at the time.

{{Old Style to New Style|OS day and month|year|NS day and month}}

If it helps you remember the order of the parameters, you may optionally choose to think of it like this:

{{Old Style to New Style|OS day and month|OS year|NS day and month|NS year}}

Note that in this usage the fourth parameter will be ignored when the template is rendered.
